La Porchetta/glen Waverley
For a family treat, the eternally-searching foodie that is yours truly ventured out to La Porchetta in Glen Waverley. It’s a fairly nondescript place that doesn’t pull out all the stops in terms of decoration and furnishings and let’s face it, La Porchetta is a family venue for dining, not a five-star restaurant. The quaint atmosphere of the place is offset by the spacious design of the seating area, with ample room for families of ten to outings for the humble single.
The meal began with a Super Special pizza and I can say it was delicious. Filled to the top with mouth-watering fillings such as mozarella, ham, mushrooms, capsicum, onions and olives, the pizza went down a treat with the young’uns and oldies alike. Not that you’d call me old
. Next followed a marina ensemble with penne. It was passable, but the prolonged fish odours drove me away from it. The subsequent vegeterian tortellini fared better, tickling the taste buds and garnering nods from my all-important kids.
But, it was the fettuicini served in association with the Pollo de Funghi that really hit a high note. The flavours were out of this world, with the kids screaming out for more. Unfortunately, the wallet couldn’t cater
. A few simple serves of tiramisu ice-cream and home made gelati followed, ending the meal on a sweet and tangy note that was both memorable and exciting.
If flavours from the italian spectrum interest you, this place is a must. Calling all die-hard pizza fans.
